Trump!

Trump: Love him, hate him, odds are pretty good you know who he is now, even if you didn’t use to. What do we know about Trump? Well, different people know different things I imagine. One thing I think most of us can agree on is that he is a narcissist. All the signs indicate that he has no real sense of shame, and his self-image is tightly bound up in how wealthy and powerful others perceive him to be. That’s why he sued an author who questioned Trump’s monetary value in print. He can shrug off other attacks pretty easily, but attacking his projected image of wealth is a big no-no. It’s also why he likes to put his name on everything in sight.

“Yes, yes, we know this, what’s your point?” you might be asking. I’ve said this before, and I still think it holds true: I don’t think Trump ever wanted to be POTUS. He simply viewed the upcoming election as a chance to garner a lot of attention (because he needs that) and to boost book sales. I think he figured he could come out, say a bunch of crazy shit, appeal to the lowest common denominator, make bank, score loads of attention, but that when it came down to it, the system would stop him.

I don’t think he counted on garnering nearly as much support from angry white people has he has received. I think he’s probably genuinely surprised by the number of people cheering for him. And now he finds himself in a loop of garnering attention, saying more and more offensive things, garnering more attention, and so on. He absolutely adores the attention, but he knows he can’t walk back anything (nor does he want to). But I still don’t think he’s at the point where he genuinely wants to be POTUS. He’s still thinking he can ride this near to the end, and then somehow withdraw, either voluntarily or by external forces (such as the rest of the GOP).

I, like a lot of people, don’t want Trump as POTUS. I think that would be a small-scale disaster for the nation. Certainly, being the jack ass that he is, he would do nigh-irreparable damage to our worldwide standing. But if he were to be elected POTUS (not something I think is very likely), he wouldn’t be nearly the disaster for the nation that someone like Ted Cruz would be. Why? Because I don’t think Trump would actually be able to push much through the system. He’s still an outsider, and I don’t think either party in Congress would be willing to enable him much. I also don’t think he cares all that much about politics.

Cruz, on the other hand, is a serious threat. He may be disliked by his own party (pretty seriously so if you believe some reports), but he’s still a part of their system. Which means he would still have a party loyalty based chance of getting some stuff done. And make no mistake; Ted Cruz is a bad person. He actively holds beliefs that are utterly against the ideals of the United States of America. He’s actively hateful towards women, LGBT, and the poor. He’s a Dominionist, and that actively colors his beliefs. He would work hard to shift the US towards a more theocratic nation.

Trump is a raging hemorrhoid, there’s no doubt about that. But he just wants attention and glory. Cruz essentially hates everything America stands for.

When you vote, vote Blue. If you can’t bring yourself to vote Blue, vote for Kasich (who?) or Trump. A vote for Cruz is legitimately a vote against the United States.
